URGO K2 18-25 CM X 12 CM
Descriptions
Urgo K2 18-25 cm x 12 cm is a dual-band multi-type compression system, benefiting from the PresSure System. This technology makes it easier to apply the recommended therapeutic pressure (of the order of 40 mm Hg), right from the first application. The new dual-layer compression system Urgo K2 is made up of two different types of bandage developed for use in combination.
- The first KTech bandage, in direct contact with the skin, is made up of a viscose and polyester wadding complexed with an elastic polyamide and elastane fabric. This first layer is an elastic bandage with an average extensibility of 75% (short-stretch type bandage) and is white in colour.
- The second KPress bandage, made from polyamide and elastane, has an average extensibility of 160% (long-stretch type bandage) and is a flesh-coloured cohesive bandage containing natural latex.
Both offer long-lasting, comfortable effectiveness, whatever the size of the ankle: average pressures of 40 mmHg as recommended by the HAS.
Product benefits
- High level of pressure, around 40 mmHg at the ankle.
- Massage effect when walking (moderate resting pressure, high pressure when walking) to promote venous return and reduce oedema.
- Safe and easy to apply: with the PresSure System, the therapeutic pressure is reached on the first application without prior training, and the system can remain in place for up to 7 days.
Before applying the bands:
- Examine the shape of the leg to identify any areas at risk of excess pressure (bony protrusions) and protect them with cotton wool if necessary. If there is a wound, apply a suitable plaster before applying the bandage.
- Measure the circumference of the ankle and check that the correct kit has been chosen (18 to 25 cm or 25 to 32 cm).
- It is preferable to apply the compression system in the morning on getting up or after the patient's legs have been elevated for an hour, in order to minimise orthostatic oedema.
- Depending on the patient's needs, apply the bandages up to the knee or thigh and use the appropriate bandage widths.
Application method:
Caution: Always cut off excess bandage lengths. Excess bandage should not be wrapped around the limb as this will increase pressure.
‘Below the knee’ application method (venous leg ulcer or oedema):
Kit for ankle circumferences of 18 to 25 cm - 50% coverage:
Applying KTech:
1 - Hold foot at 90°, toes up. Apply KTech to the base of the toes using two anchoring turns, ensuring that the padded side is in direct contact with the skin and that the pressure indicator is located on the upper side of the bandage. Continue in a ‘figure 8’ around the ankle without applying excessive tension to the foot and covering the heel well.
2 - Work your way up to the knee, spiralling and stretching the bandage appropriately: the pressure indicator printed on the bandages should form a circle. To achieve correct coverage, the pressure indicator must be just covered (50% coverage). Finish 2 cm below the knee and cut off the excess tape. Secure with a plaster.
3 - Apply KPress over KTech using the same technique, starting with one finger above KTech and finishing with one finger below KTech so that only KTech is in direct contact with the skin. Once applied, gently press your hands against the bandage to ensure a secure hold.
Kit for ankle circumferences of 25 to 32 cm - 2/3 overlap:
Apply using the same method as the kit for circumferences of 18 to 25 cm. Continue to just cover the pressure indicator printed in the middle of the bands (2/3 overlap).
Application method ‘up to the thigh’ (lymphoedema):
If necessary, apply an appropriate bandage over the toes. To apply the bandage up to the thigh, follow the same method as for application below the knee, but using the following sequence of strips:
1 - Apply an 8 cm KTech over the foot (or 10 cm depending on the size of the foot) and up to the ankle.
2 - Then apply a 10 cm KTech. Stop just above the knee; bend the knee slightly. If necessary and for greater comfort, pad the back of the knee with cotton wool.
3 - Continue to the top of the thigh with a 10 cm or 12 cm KTech (whichever is more appropriate) and hold in place with plaster.
4 - Apply KPress over KTech using an identical sequence of strips and method of application.
5 - Cut off excess strip lengths. At the end of the application, press gently on the bandage with your hands to ensure a good hold.
Urgo K2 must be left in place day and night, until the next plaster change, at the doctor's discretion. The Urgo K2 kit is for single use only.
Precautions for use
Perform an echo-Doppler examination to ensure that the patient has an IPS > 0.8 before prescribing the compression system. In the event of diabetes, heart failure or advanced microvasculopathy, the compression system should only be used on medical advice, under strict supervision and after appropriate treatment. In the case of infectious peri-ulcer dermatosis, treat the infection before starting treatment with the compression system. In the case of ulcers of rare cause (vasculitis, haemopathy, Pyoderma gangrenosum, etc.), compression treatment should only be used after specialist medical advice. The effectiveness of Urgo K2 has been tested and validated for use in conjunction with KTech and KPress. The PresSure System has been designed to make bandage application easier: it is important to follow the application instructions carefully in order to achieve the recommended therapeutic pressure level. If any difficulties arise, consult a doctor.
