Descriptions
Scalibor Small and Medium Dog Collar 48 cm is an external anti-pest collar for dogs that contains deltamethrin, a powerful insecticide and acaricide with repellent (antigorgement) properties. It protects your dog against sandflies (the agent that transmits leishmaniasis) for 5 months, and against ticks and mosquitoes (culex pipiens) for 6 months.

How does the Scalibor collar work?
The Scalibor collar gradually releases deltamethrin, the active molecule, covering the dog's entire body thanks to the lipid film on the skin. Within a PVC matrix, deltamethrin (DTM) is attached to a plasticising agent, triphenyl phosphate (TPP). Together, they form complexes that are released regularly and continuously by rubbing against the surface of the collar and migrate into the lipid film all over the skin (see diagram). Unlike traditional collars, this original, patented technology enables deltamethrin to be applied directly and exclusively to the animal's skin and hair. There is no release by evaporation, no loss of active ingredient and therefore no odour. For optimum protection, given the diffusion time on the animal, the collar should be applied one week before the dog enters the infested environment.

Effectiveness of Scalibor
- Effectiveness against sandfly bites
Laboratory studies have shown, throughout the period of use of the collar, an anti-gorging effect of over 90% against the main vector of canine leishmaniasis in the Mediterranean basin (phlebotomus perniciosus). It has been shown to act quickly against sandflies, with 90% protection in the first week and almost 100% in the second. With Scalibor you therefore protect your dog against sandflies.

Scalibor protects against sandfly bites for 5 months.

- Targeted effectiveness on dog ticks
Deltamethrin is active against all stages of tick development: larvae, nymphs and adults. Even in the event of massive and repeated infestations, the Scalibor collar has shown its effectiveness against ticks. The infestations reproduced in the trials were large (25 to 50 ticks) and repeated (10 successive infestations).

Scalibor protects against tick infestations for 6 months.

- Effectiveness against mosquito bites
A laboratory study carried out with Scalibor showed an anti-gorging effect of over 98% against the adult mosquito culex pipiens during the 27 weeks of the study. Scalibor thus prevented most mosquitoes from taking a blood meal in treated dogs.

Scalibor helps protect dogs against mosquito bites (Culex pipiens) for 6 months.

Directions for use
Fit the collar into the animal's neck and cut off the excess collar, leaving 5 cm after the buckle. The collar should be fitted 1 week before the dog is introduced to an infested environment.

Overdose (symptoms, emergency treatment, antidotes)
In the event of accidental ingestion of the collar by the dog, the following symptoms of intoxication may be observed: incoordination of movements, tremors, hypersalivation. These symptoms are reversible within 48 hours. Symptomatic treatment with benzodiazepines, in particular diazepam, may be instituted

Contraindications
In the absence of available data, do not use in puppies under 7 weeks of age.

Special precautions for use in animals
It is not recommended to place the collar on an animal with extensive skin lesions.

Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicine to animals
Wash hands with cold water and soap after handling the collar. Avoid contact with the skin. Do not allow children to play with the collar. Children should avoid intense and prolonged contact with a dog wearing the collar. Keep away from food and drink, including pet food. Do not eat, drink or smoke while wearing the collar. Do not handle the collar in the event of known hypersensitivity to one of the components of the collar or to any other pyrethroid. In the event of severe symptoms, such as swelling of the face, and/or respiratory discomfort, seek medical advice immediately by showing the product leaflet.

Adverse reactions (frequency and severity)
In very rare cases, local skin reactions in the neck area (erythema, pruritus, depilation) or general skin reactions have been reported. Behavioural disturbances (e.g. lethargy or hyperactivity) often associated with skin irritation have also been reported in very rare cases. In extremely rare cases, neurological signs (tremors, ataxia, incoordinated movements) or digestive disorders (vomiting, diarrhoea) have been reported. In such cases, the collar should be removed immediately.

Use during pregnancy and lactation or when laying eggs
Studies in laboratory animals (rats, rabbits) have not demonstrated any teratogenic effect of deltamethrin. The safety of the product in bitches during pregnancy has not been demonstrated. The use of this product in pregnant dogs is not recommended. The collar may be worn by lactating bitches.
